According to "reliable sources" of an Icelandic site, Svarthofdi, principal photography for Thor: The Dark World ...is set to take place partly in the Nordic European island country of Iceland.
Beyond relating to Norse mythology, Iceland is familiar to director Alan Taylor, considering he has filmed portions of Game of Thrones in the country (pictured below). And according to leading star Chris Hemsworth, Taylor's ultimate approach to the sequel is having less green-screen and more on-location surroundings.
And other tentpole films that have filmed there include Prometheus, Batman Begins, and most recently, Oblivion and Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah among others. However, until verification, take the info lightly as primary filming for Thor: The Dark World will take place in vast areas of England. What do you think?
Christopher Eccleston, the actor portraying Malekith the Accursed in the hugely-anticipated Thor: The Dark World, has confirmed shooting will take place in Iceland!
Continuing in London, principal photography for Marvel’s new movie is scheduled this month to showcase England’s capital city in a major way. However, Eccleston has just confirmed that filming will soon head north, overseas in Iceland, which was first reported back in early August. While recently attending a literature festival, he discussed his villainous role, confirming he’ll take part in the scenes that’ll be filmed in the Nordic European island country.
