C-hing, HP700 compare with 300se, big differences, more tube taste? Any options with the HP700 like tone control, etc? How much and where you bought it, please pm. Thanks.

I start to look for a new pre-amp, I am using RE320 power amp now, so probably choose in between HP700, Luxman CL1000 or ARC Ref 6SE

Hi Ching, HP700 and 300se are totally 2 different levels. Its an upgrade in every aspects, and a great different in vocals. In my opinion HP300se is a bit weak in vocals, but 700 has made up the weakness.

Of coz, price is almost a triple. U can try in richcoln showroom.

Thanks C-ching, you put any upgrade like tone control, the 48 steps volume control and other modules? I am thinking of this one cos I am using re320, but i look at the spec. not have many tubes, only 3 tubes I guess two for left and right channel and one for power supply, not sure if have enough tube taste feeling!

I did not have any modules upgrade. Most of the modules are for phono, but I don't use phono so therefore I did not purchase any upgrade. Any modules can be easily amend if needed.

The tubes as from my understanding, 1 is for left, 1 is for right and 1 for phono. Octave selling point is never for its tube taste. The tubes are just a method for tonal adjustment. The music reproduced are very live-like and realistic. Its not too warm, or too cold, just right.

Some experts say you can replace the tubes for better warmth, but the factory do not recommend you to do so as they have been well tuned. If you are looking for more tube taste, I would not recommend Octave to you.

Thanks C-hing for your advise, yes I have heard people saying about the sound character of Octave amps, so I struggle if should get HP700 to make it a set with RE320 (what I am using now) or find something else to match with the 320, as the 700 not cheap at all so better get it right!

本人現在用octave v80 推 focal sopra N1，source 用 auralic Altair G1，師兄覺得合適嗎？因為我感覺細節各方面都不錯，唯獨是感覺聲音密度和厚度不夠，低音也不夠。現在是跟原裝膽，師兄覺得可以用線材或者換膽去補救嗎？資料補充，電源線、訊號線和喇叭線是用農夫primier pro。

啱啱先發現呢個同好會！又見好耐未有人推過 post就順帶推下。早排購入了基本型號 V40SE覺得個聲好啱自己口味，咁近兩日就睇下佢地原廠前級！可惜現在只剩兩個型號，HP300SE 及700SE,  兩者價位差天共地。500也停產了！否則中間價位最合適！在未嘗過佢地嘅前級，就先試下部較經劑的 HP300SE睇下會有咩改善？！結果一加就知完全兩回事了！音場闊咗，泛音多咗，微動態大有改進，還只係用原裝膽，即還有發展空間！很不錯！

恭喜師兄。 hp300se 好嘢嚟，不過唔建議你換膽玩。換膽會改變咗佢嘅平衡度，octave都唔係膽味見稱。

我有部hp700放，有興趣嘅可以pm我

我都係先試吓300，睇吓係咪啱自己味道先？我覺得結果係遠超身價非常好聽！係喎原裝膽已非常好聽，包括 V40se, 所以我都諗係咪換佢D細膽！700我有興趣呀！但上到呢個價位真係要停一停諗一諗。
