簡單來說，是以光纖不過電的特性以阻隔在有線乙太網裡的電噪。基本上是一對Ethernet-to-optical media converter （我不知道中文名稱），放置在訊源和播放器/DAC中間，即由原先一條Ethernet cable直接由訊源到播放器/DAC，變成由訊源以Ethernet cable到converter, converter與converter間以光纖連接，converter在以Ethernet cable接到播放器/DAC。

和你現在處理NAS和router一樣，converter使用的電源是一重點。

Using synology 213j, but some says the higher model the better, thus you might want to try 214+ or even 713+.

As to LPS please check pm.

Also the HDD you use in the NAS is a factor.

Thanks Nick c hing.  I am actually the one who enquires about your PBD earlier and finally I got the Weiss 301.

I ordered a Synology 214 but using normal WD HDD for the moment though.

Any suggestion on Ethernet cable as well?

Try using WD Red instead of WD Green. Very quiet and suitable for heavy duty NAS use.

when you have accumulated more GB of files, you will have a need to do backup of your data in NAS, even if you are using RAID 1, to further mitigate the chance of total loss. that would be a good time to retire your WD green HDD for backup purpose and use enterprise grade HDD for music playback.

i m using a synology DS412+ running RAID 5 for music playback, and a DS214 for backing up the DS412+ two times each week. the DS214 is turned off for most of the time.

Thanks to Simcity hing, a new small tweak with little cost even pushes the sound quality of the NAS to another level.
Cisco SG90D-08 Switch

replaced my Asus router with the cisco switch, the sound becomes much more transparent, focused, like a glass has been removed between my ear and the music; Bass is much punchier, deeper; and it throws a even bigger sound stage than the original one which was already excellent.  

for 5xx HKD, it's a no brainer. Highly recommended for NAS streaming!
Now I can see the fun of CAS, there's no standard or authority to follow for newbie like me in this area as it's relatively new. However you can always try new tweaks with little cost (compared to traditional hifi), but sometimes the result is astonishing.

So nick hing, can you be more specific?  So basically you add a switch and both the NAS and DAC are connected by this while the WIFI router has another link to the switch?

Btw, I used to work for Cisco and they are definitely good products!!

Any recommendation of LAN cables?

this is how i set up at least. a designated switch for music streaming and the streamer and nas are connected to it. the switch is also connected to the wifi router for using ipad to control the streamer. between the wifi router and the switch is the so-called "optical lan" to filter the noises from the wifi router.
