I'm new to Linn DS and am using Macbook pro w/ itune to rip and play music via Amarra ---> Weiss DAC. If I swap to Linn DC, can I play muisc thru' Mac/itune (AIFF format)?

Yes, you can use the ripped audio files of AIFF format.

In fact, Linn DS support the below format upto 24bit / 192kHz:

FLAC / WAV / ALAC / MP3 / WMA / AIFF / AAC / OGG

我也是Linn的用家，用的是舊版ADS.....買了幾個月後就話出新版本，當時有些後悔呢!也想過升級到ADS/I或renewDS，但後來覺得室內環境需要改善的地方比換一部ADS/I更重要呢(像冷氣機的噪聲，魚缸的水聲....等)，所以現在都係乖乖地發揮ADS的潛力吧。

我有個印像是如果ADS用XLR接駁，效果應可去到KDS的九成功力。用RCA就只得七成。

不過是聽簡單的如人聲，普通歌仔等

聽大棚野可能分別會大一點

所以因為這一點，最後我買了ADS，因為我聽古典只有30%

保充一點，我試時是用全套linn klimax series

從我的同場 A/B 比較

同是用 XLR 接駁

Klimax DS/1 > Renew DS > Akurate DS

ADS 效果是一定沒有 KDS 的九成功力的

KDS 效果確是勝 ADS 不少，且是十分明顯

不過有時highend音響這10-15%的improvement就是值那麼很多錢，因為已經到金字塔那個尖尖位。

那次我聽了約一個小時，反覆的試聽了不同的類形的音樂。可能耳也疲倦了，最後他播了一首歌(外國女聲)，我差頭以為是KDS，後來他告訢我原來是ADS，我和在旁的朋友也有點surprise。然後他又switch回RCA來播ADS(因為他已經把幾個設置插在前級上)，發覺真是好不同。(但沒有留意他用什麼線，不過多數是貴野)

所以最反決定省回一點錢，乖乖的買了ADS。但當然我肯定ADS和KDS一定有分別，基本上論分析力，ADS和KDS真是不會差太遠，不過就是播出來的感覺,KDS就是所謂的好organic，場面大D，好柔，好舒服的感覺。

我試的時侯是ADS剛剛upgrade了dynamik，不過這是舊的review了，新的KDS可能真是另外一個境界。

其實錯對都冇乜所謂啦，新出的產品應該只會越來越進步，不過我只是分享以往買機時的經驗，希望在坐的師兄雖然不能或不想afford得到klimaxDS，買部ADS也不錯。

另外其實High End音響的C/P ratio 本來就不是咁Linear，但是時最頂級的音響就是只分別於那劃龍點睛的最後一步。

所以有 Klimax DS 的兄弟，一定要盡快到代理付款升級至 Klimax DS/1



Klimax Renew DS 也表現甚皆，有前 Klimax DS 的 8~9 成功力

暫無足夠彈藥及能力買 Klimax DS/1 的，好彩找到也要買入 Renew DS 或 Klimax DS



Akurate DS 的性能亦非常平均地好

只是在有 Klimax DS/1 及 Renew DS 同場比較時，才被比下去



Majik DS 是入門級 DS，表現中規中矩

聽人聲、小品及Jazz，並無大問題

只在聽交響樂及高清 High Resolution Audio File 才輸得特別明顯



Linn 的 DS 是不錯的 Digital Streaming Player

曲目愈複雜細膩，特別是大棚 Orchestra 及 High Resolution Audio 高一級的 DS 有一定優勢

所有參加的 Linn DS 用家 (Klimax DS1 / Renew DS / Akurate DS) 也察覺及認同其中分別

真是一分錢、一分貨

有能力要買 Klimax DS/1，多餘零用錢不多，Majik DS 也是好的入門之選



結論:

Klimax DS/1 > Renew DS > Akurate DS > Majik DS-I

Is gigabit switch also will have sound quality different among different brand? Such as some cheap switch ($100) vs expensive switch ($400)

I planned to buy a switch, but no idea which one should I go for?

I dunno whether changing a better switch (router) can improve sound quality. But I do think that changing the original PSU of the router to a custom-made linear PSU will help a lot

Yes, home network infrastructure planning is quite important before purchasing the LINN DS.
For network router, if budget is allowed, I recommend Linksys or even the Apple Airport Extreme. They are all high quality ones (although the switching PSU is still quite chicken)

All LINN chings in Hiendy is very very helpful (Especially Raywan  and except jj4044 ), I think you will be trouble-free for setting up your Linn DS.

Hi fieldmice hing

I consider an isolated switch is better than any router when connecting to Linn DS via LAN Cable.

In fact, I just use 2 basic gigabit switch from TP-Link (5 port = HK$1xx & 8 port = HK$2xx).

I bought it last night!! Also it is the TP-link gigabit switch 8-ports (same as your suggest!)

I have a question:
I just simple plug the computer (Running XP) and the NAS (QNAP TS-110) to network switch (TP-Link). But why i cannot directly saw the NAS (such as the file folder in the NAS) in the computer's (My computer/network place)?

I think my NAS already is in default setting, so the problem maybe my computer's network setting. Pls can you advice where to find the related information to make it.
