"ECT showroom at Lai Chi Kok yesterday. They said Dave is not available for trial due to send back to Factory for upgrade"
I have never heard of the upgrade of DAVE and certainly don't know what ECT was talking about.
"M Scala apparently require huge Current (10 Amps) to run and that will affect the DAVE's performance. Do you think DAVE will be upgraded with the additional M Scala?"
The current MScaler and DAVE is a two-box solution. Hence will not affect DAVE's performance. Currently, the MScaler will not be integrated in to DAVE because of the noise according to Rob, the designer of DAVE. I doubt it will in 3-year's time.
"HKD20k"
DAVE is rarely in the 2nd hand market, retains high value, and ran real fast. You're very lucky to find one and no way in 20k. The last time I saw a new one in HK was probably in 黑布街. I forgot the address.
"Total DAC, MSB Analogue "
The top model of Total should be comparable to DAVE and MSB analogue is certain to lose. Your finding is not surprising.
"Do you think the DAVE 's SQ is justify to for this criteria?"
My old DAC was about 20k brand new. I moved to DAVE with no regret so far. Anytime it's on, any time I'm happy literally. Now I use it as the DAC for the 機頂盒of my TV, stereo output, and the sound is great. I certainly find the price totally justify. Mind you, the genre you play affects the judgement a lot. As you may have known, I like live concerts and musicals very much, and this is the area that DAVE excels. For albums that different types of instruments are recorded individually and then mixed again, I GUESS a lesser DAC should do. I'm not a classical music guy, so I'm not sure if my experience helps. Anyway I'm told that DAVE excels when the music is complex. Hence I guess that DAVE is good for classical as well.
No experience, hence no opinion for Lynx Hill DAC.
Finally, I find not much DAVE, or Chord, users in Hiendy(I could be wrong). May be you'd better to ask in foreign forums as well where the spectrum of the forum members are much wider. Do an audition preferable by HP first. The setting of the preamp, amp and the room may affect your judgment. Hence I would like to eliminate these first. You may use the built-in cross feed function of DAVE. That should give you a glimpse of how it sounds through speakers. My speakers, due to the constraints of the room, does not sound as good as my HP and it won't change unless I buy another house, LOL.
