Hi Small Tiger,  knowing that you used both Emmlabs and Playback, what is the sonic difference between the two?
Does Emmlabs have a more forward and aggressive sound than Playback?  Why do you change from EMMlabs to Playback.  Can you share more?

Hi, Leslie , I audited emmlab from integrated SACD player to transport with DAC several times in my friend’s home or showroom. When comparing with MPS5 and flagship Mpt8 with mpd8, they shares with similar DAC design and high resolution together with excellent sound stage. But emmlab seems to have better dynamic especially in high frequency while playback being strength in musicality and punch in low frequency as well as stronger image in mid-range. After upgrade of clock circuit, my mps5’s two-polar frequency extension greatly improved. Overall, I love musical and warm sound presentation more by playback design.

Thanks for your sharing.  As I am also considering Playback.  Seems Playback will give a warmer sound than Emm lab.  Emmlabs may have more hi-fi sound capability.  It all depends on matching with gears and personal taste.

Both of emmlab and playback design have high cost performance ratio than CH, DCS and Nagra. They have different tone taste and are subject to your preferences.
