The advantage of using aluminum enclosure for speaker is no distortion of shape and good durability. 潮濕及虫仔都唔怕。But what is the sonic characteristic as compared to wood and MDF or resin materials?

After listening to Q5， the one Magico which I used to dream about， I am convinced the new series is less musical albeit other aspects might be more advantageous.

To me, the Q5, being the first of the "new" all aluminum series, is the least appealing one to me. It has high resolution, but too clinical to my ears. Its low sensitivity puts a lot of demands on the power amplifiers. I suppose Magico learnt from the experience and the later Q3 and Q7 are better in its sonic balance and much kinder in sensitivity. I even prefer to S5 to the Q5, being more relaxed and equally dynamic.

I have casually listened to the Q5 for two times at the dealer.

The first time the dealer hasn't removed the wheel, and the sound is quite dull and I would consider less than stellar.

The second time at their new causeway bay show room, paired with dCS Vivaldi, Constellation pre and power combo with odin cables. And yet the Q5 still sounded quite uninvolved.

I don't know whether this would attribute to the Constellation combo or the speakers themselves because there was another occasion that I listened to Constellation with S5, to my uninitiated wooden ears they sounded lifeless too.
But yet again I had an opportunity to listen to the S5 paired with Burmester gears, sounded musical with dynamics!

Actually very fond of S1 but am struggling whether to get S1 or S3. My listening area is around 250 sq feet. However, the price quoted by the dealer was outrageous - even more than US list price USD22,600!

Magico speakers, being very transparent, require more care in the chain of components used. Aside from the Q7 which is a class by itself, I think the S5 is the sweet spot of its current line up with the best C/P. I guess Magico know about this and in the "new" 2014 price list, only the S5 has a price increase. I haven't heard the S3 but if Magico makes use of its experience with the S5 and the S1 to improve on the design/construction, the S3 can be a killer speaker. Quite a few reviewers have high praise of it from initial listening at shows and demos.

For a 250 sq ft room, I would go for the S3. However, if the quoted price is more than the US list price, it is indeed outrageous.

I've asked for the price of the S3 at around the Chinese New Year after I've made a purchase. So I guessed I've at least shown that I'm serious in spending some money other than some nosey guy wanted to fool around, I suppose they would quote me a favourable price.

Another thing that S3 catches my attention is its single extruded body, in theory it is better than the S5's three-piece design because of the minimum self-resonance.

Yes. I would also think so. It would be interesting to have a side-by-side comparison in a suitably sized room.
