I can't speak for others but can share my experience.
I am a big fan of Japanese Jazz from the 70s, a lot of the albums
were never released in CD format, I stocked up records even before
I bought my turntable. Eventually I got my hands on a 2nd hand
Nottingham TT and a cheap phono amp and later upgraded to my
current system which I think will stay with me in the foreseeable
future.
I think setting up the TT, tonearm and cartridge is a pain in the butt,
without a proper setup it sounded horrible period. I have to thank 2
members here doing all the dirty work for me. My advice is if you enjoy
tweaking your system and have the time to do it, go ahead. If I have the
choice I prefer CD's simplicity.
