So what's conrad-johnson is all about? Low profile, pragmatic, and persevere with it's own philosophy regardless of market trends is pretty much the essence of "cj" since it first appeared in the market 30 years ago. And their slogan...."It just sounds right" is indeed their "core value" or "design philosophy" in developing all of their product lines. Together with ARC, they revitalize the tube amp market which was once believed to be obsolete in the 70's. Founded by Dr. William Conrad & Dr. Lewis Johnson (both are economist) in the mid 70's, their first product PV-1 in 1977 has sent a shock wave in the whole audiophile world and immediately established as a key player in the high-end audio arena, until today.
These days, the "Look" is everything, and it has become the rule of thumb of many "fashion brands" in the market. But few Hi-end manufacturers like cj, FM acoustics and Kondo still refuse to follow this nonsense. If you have ever had a chance listening to some of their flagship models, you'll be shocked how awesome these products really are in conveying the essence of music to the listener. Yes, they may look really "stupid", "old fashioned" and even "flimsy", but soon after the first encounter with the ears (not eyes), the veterans of the Hi-end audiophile circles has no difficulties keep coming back again and again for these amazing equipments.
And one interesting thing about cj is its logo, "conrad-johnson". If you look carefully enough, it's actually written in small capital letters for their surnames. For such an elite brand in the Hi-end market, this kind of modesty from the founders has no doubt won my due respect !!!
