Some DACs or preapms have a phase inversion switch. I do not have enough experience with these to pass judgment but I have heard that especially those using a remote, only change the absolute phase to some extent but not 180 degrees. A thorough and proper change is to switch the terminals of both speakers.
You may wish to try again with a speaker-terminals change and use a large orchestral work with loud brass passages, for example, Tchaikovsky's Symphony 4, Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. If you do not have these, the saxopone solo in High Life track in Jazz at the Pawn Shop 1 may also be used. The correct absolute phase would have the brass passages splashing towards you.
If you are still unable to hear the difference between the two opposite phases, perhaps your speakers have mixed dispersions and that would also be reflected in below par performance in image size, sharpness, placement etc. |
