So, after some poisonous visitors came and listened to my Anthem MRX700, I have already sold my previous Klipsch RF-15 and RC-52, bought a 2 nd hand Thiel SCS2 using my Thiel CS1.2 (with Klipsch RS-42 x4) “in accordance with” their advice. One area for improvement is that my Velodyne CHT-8R is not sufficient for my area of about 12 ft wide x 20 ft long with the couch sitting in the middle (10ft).
Suggestion to improve, of course, is to change to a bigger/better sub-woofer like the Velodyne SPL1000/1200 Ultra (already solicited in the 2 nd hand buying forum) . Some member suggested to place the sub be moved from the present position (rightmost under the stool) to the leftmost position under the stool or even better to place it at the leftmost corner adjacent to the left front speaker. This is somehow impossible because the space I free up after by selling the Klipsch RF-15 is only of 12 inches wide (RF-15 is only 6 inches wide and 12”inches depth). So the option remained is to place the sub-woofer at the leftmost position under the stool. But you can see from the photo and the description I cited at the beginning of this thread, such re-arrangement of gears would be a big problem given the electrical supply constrain. It will be a big project and another sleepless night . Anyway I will give it a try. In addition, my Anthem ARC provides a quick measure with aim to determine the best location for a speaker(sub-woofer) which would result in a smoother response curve.
Yes, Velodyne SPL1200 Ultra is 15.5"x15"x18."(HxWxD). BTW, if place thw sub at the leftmost position, would the couch block the "wavelength" of the bass (more than 10 ft)?
Tonight toke an effort to re-locate my sub from the previous rightmost position under the stool to the leftmost position(hopefully to increase some punch).
But just I intended to push-in the power plug into my sub, a sudden loud "pop" sound was heard. Maybe I have short-circuit something and the TV lost image. I was worrying the subwoofer is blown (but then I can buy a new one ). Later found out only the extension socket is out of order and I suspec the fuse inside is blown. To late to fix it now, leave it for to-morrow.
Only the fuse in the extension sockert 13A plug's fuse is blown. Replaced it with a $2 fuse from a metalware store. For my cheapy Velodyne CHT-8R in its new position, I think some improvement has been achieved as per the new measured response curve .
