撒上17:12 大衛是猶大伯利恒的以法他人耶西的兒子。耶西有八個兒子。當掃羅的時候，耶西已經老邁。
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.
撒上17:13 耶西的三個大兒子跟隨掃羅出征。這出征的三個兒子：長子名叫以利押，次子名叫亞比拿達，三子名叫沙瑪。
And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
撒上17:14 大衛是最小的；那三個大兒子跟隨掃羅。
And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
撒上17:15 大衛有時離開掃羅回伯利恒，放他父親的羊。
But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
撒上17:16 那非利士人早晚都出來站著，如此四十日。
And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
撒上17:17 壹日，耶西對他兒子大衛說：“妳拿壹伊法烘了的穗子和十個餅，速速地送到營裏去，交給妳哥哥們；
And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren.
撒上17:18 再拿這十塊奶餅，送給他們的千夫長，且問妳哥哥們好，向他們要壹封信來。”
And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.
撒上17:19 掃羅與大衛的三個哥哥和以色列衆人，在以拉谷與非利士人打仗。
Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
撒上17:20 大衛早晨起來，將羊交托壹個看守的人，照著他父親所吩咐的話，帶著食物去了。到了辎重營，軍兵剛出到戰場，呐喊要戰。
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.
撒上17:21 以色列人和非利士人都擺列隊伍，彼此相對。
For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.
撒上17:22 大衛把他帶來的食物留在看守物件人的手下，跑到戰場，問他哥哥們安。
And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.
撒上17:23 與他們說話的時候，那討戰的，就是屬迦特的非利士人歌利亞，從非利士隊中出來，說從前所說的話；大衛都聽見了。
And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.
撒上17:24 以色列衆人看見那人就逃跑，極其害怕。
And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
撒上17:25以色列人彼此說：“這上來的人妳看見了嗎？他上來是要向以色列人罵陣。若有能殺他的，王必賞賜他大財，將自己的女兒給他爲妻，並在以色列人中免他父家納糧當差。”
And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.
撒上17:26 大衛問站在旁邊的人說：“有人殺這非利士人，除掉以色列人的恥辱，怎樣待他呢？這未受割禮的非利士人是誰呢？竟敢向永生　神的軍隊罵陣嗎？”
And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
撒上17:27 百姓照先前的話回答他，說，有人能殺這非利士人，必如此如此待他。
And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
撒上17:28 大衛的長兄以利押聽見大衛與他們所說的話，就向他發怒說：“妳下來做什麽呢？在曠野的那幾只羊，妳交托了誰呢？我知道妳的驕傲和妳心裏的惡意，妳下來特爲要看爭戰。”
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
撒上17:29 大衛說：“我做了什麽呢？我來豈沒有緣故嗎？”
And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
撒上17:30 大衛就離開他轉向別人，照先前的話而問，百姓仍照先前的話回答他。
And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.
撒上17:31 有人聽見大衛所說的話，就告訴了掃羅，掃羅便打發人叫他來。
And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
撒上17:32 大衛對掃羅說：“人都不必因那非利士人膽怯。妳的仆人要去與那非利士人戰鬥。”
And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
撒上17:33 掃羅對大衛說：“妳不能去與那非利士人戰鬥，因爲妳年紀太輕，他自幼就作戰士。”
And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. 撒上17:34 大衛對掃羅說：“妳仆人爲父親放羊，有時來了獅子，有時來了熊，從群中銜壹只羊羔去。
And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
撒上17:35 我就追趕它，擊打它，將羊羔從它口中救出來。它起來要害我，我就揪著它的胡子，將它打死。
And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
撒上17:36 妳仆人曾打死獅子和熊，這未受割禮的非利士人向永生　神的軍隊罵陣，也必像獅子和熊壹般。”
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
撒上17:37 大衛又說：“耶和華救我脫離獅子和熊的爪，也必救我脫離這非利士人的手。”掃羅對大衛說：“妳可以去吧!耶和華必與妳同在。”
David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
撒上17:38 掃羅就把自己的戰衣給大衛穿上，將銅盔給他戴上，又給他穿上铠甲。
And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
撒上17:39 大衛把刀跨在戰衣外，試試能走不能走。因爲素來沒有穿慣，就對掃羅說：“我穿戴這些不能走，因爲素來沒有穿慣。”于是摘脫了。
And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
撒上17:40 他手中拿杖，又在溪中挑選了五塊光滑石子，放在袋裏，就是牧人帶的囊裏；手中拿著甩石的機弦，就去迎那非利士人。
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
