X-Rite’s Display 3 Colorimeter

Just a quick note for those who are interested in getting your feet wet in calibration.

Bought the new Display 3 Colorimeter to go with my existing Chromapure calibration software, hoping to use it as a field meter to speed things up a bit, and I can tell you the meter is truly blazingly fast, at least compare to my i1Pro and the older Spyder 3.

At lower IRE its remarkably faster than i1Pro and at mid and high IRE, you almost get instant reading.  

Assuming it is as accurate out of the box as some pro meter, and longer lasting than other tristimulus colorimeter as advised by some pros and forum experts, it is quite remarkable.

If you already have paid calibration package, make sure you do not just get one on amazon and other places, since only OEM meter works with package like Chromapure, not retail ones.

Coz the software for calibrating TV is sold separately for DataColor Spyder......

I'm planning to buy one of these to calibrate my computer and possibly printer (calibrating my TV monitor as bonus).......

That depends on if the meter can accept any kind of calibration file, if it can then it might be locked to that particular software.

You probably should get the retail package, this one is a meter only.

For popular projector/TV calibration software, see: Chromapure and Calman.

用完教好點set兩個Meter用一個做reference，我都可能會買多隻colorimeter出街時用。

I think both Calman and Chromapure are very good, I have the pleaseure of using both.

From my personal perspective Calman is more powerful in terms of customization and reporting, so it might be better for those who calibrate for customers and like to tweak the work flow to their liking.  

On the other hand, Chromapure has a more intuitve interface so home users like me who want to just dive in can very easily follow a easy calibration workflow, without too step of a learning curve.  In the end both package should get your display calibrated to chosen standards.

I have been using Chromapure for the past couple of years and have not really touched Calman, but that is purely a personal preference.
