羊年大年初一，小弟家中的MSB弟兄大團圓了!

  

新回家的兩兄弟是 MSB UMT Plus 和 Signature Transport Powerbase。

雖然小弟是 CAS 的忠實擁護者，但也極喜歡 SACD，家中有數百隻，所以 MSB 的 SACD transport 也是必需之物。


這 UMT Plus 有數個優點特點，請容小弟介紹一下：

• 從相片所見，當playing SACD時，它是輸出真正的 DSD64 signal 住 MSB 解碼，原汁原味。
• 它和MSB dac 的 ProI2S connection 的原理和一般的 I2S相若，clock signals 和 data signal 平行同步輸出，jitter特低。
• ProI2S 是 two-ways traffic - 在 MSB Plus dac 內的 Femto140 clock 做了 master 而 UMT Plus 是slave， jitter又再低一點！
• MSB 的 UMT/UMT Plus 系列是現今市場上，絕無僅有的能在 playback SACD時，在 spdif digital outputs (coaxial/BNC/AES) 輸出 DoP dsd signal 的 transport!  除 MSB dac 之外，市場上有部份 dac (如 Benchmark DAC2, Mytek, Rockna ... 等等) 是可以直接從 spdif digital input 接收 DoP DSD signal 的!
• UMT Plus 也可從它的 USB 和 ethernet 接口，分別 playback 在 usb devices 和 NAS 中的 PCM 和 DSD files。
• 當然，作為一個宇宙transport，對於 DVD/BR 碟，它也是應付自如的。
  

那麽，它們 MSB 三兄弟在小弟家中的表現如何呢？
昨晚初開聲，Signature Transport Powerbase 未 warm-up，表現生硬。  
幸好煲了一晚後，聲音已回復「正常」，播放 SACD 時既有分柝力，又能表現出SACD的特有音樂感！


不過，小弟尚未原全滿意，在 tweaking/tuning 有幾方面尚要努力：

• UMT Plus系列 和以前的 non-Plus系列 的一大分別是它的 psu upgrade path。 UMT Plus是可以分開 video/transport 和 audio 線路的供電的！ 它有是兩個 DC powersupply input 插口的。 小弟當然會稍後加多一個 psu，玩盡它！
• ProI2S 的 ethernet cable 有幾個 upgrade 選擇，如 AIM, Audioquest Diamond, Totaldac, Vertere 等等。
• 它們三兄弟疊羅漢，並非理想。 小弟要重新分配 rack space，以後再加 footers/spikes/tuning board 來調震。
• 三兄弟便有三條 powercords，upgrade 和 mix&match 也是一定要做的。
  

待小弟把以上幾方面做好後，再作update報告吧。

小弟的 MSB IV Plus dac 已裝有 MSB的 Femto140 clock module，經 bi-directional 的 ProI2S connection，UMT Plus 內的時鐘已被它 同步/操控了。

當然， dac 內的 Femto140 是可以 upgrade 至 更精準的 MSB Galaxy clock module！   

不過， Galaxy clock 的價錢卻是 ...

用了 MSB UMT Plus 還有一個好處，就是可以播 Blu-Ray Pure Audio discs!
例如以下的 Carlos Kleiber DG Anniv boxset 內就有一隻Pure BR disc。  放進 UMT Plus 後，just push "play" 就可直播，極方便！




大家都知 Carlos Kleiber 這些經典曲目，已經出了 N 個版本 : CD, gold CD, sacd, Jap version ...etc。但大部份的聲效都是平平無奇 (但小弟也是見一隻買一隻)。


但驚喜之處是 這 BR disc內的是 PCM 24/96 files，而且十分靚聲！ 可說是所有版本中數一數二的！
看來用以製作的就算不是原本的master tape/files，也應該是十分早代的 master！


市面上的 BR Pure Audio disc 不太流行，售價不高。
小弟要大舉入貨了！

恭喜 CKKeung兄MSB弟兄大圑圓，其實MSB有個 Dual Transport Power Base，師兄可以考慮，可以用小一條PC，如果唔想太花費，可以用個 Desktop Power 比video嗰part，不過要充分發揮UMT+，當然係用兩個 Power Base 啦。

MSB嘅IsoRack個設計其實唔差，小弟參考咗唔少網上例子，自己也做了幾次試驗，發現叠起來最正路，反而最底墊腳影響最大，師兄可以參考。

小弟對 psu/powerbase 也曾研究過，發覺 UMT Plus 之 video dc input 的 PSU 質素其實對 stereo playback 也有影響。
所以决定最終的 configuration 一定是 兩個 separate linear PSU。  一於玩盡它！


至於疊羅漢問題，則令小弟頭痛，因為如再加 powerbase，rack space 實在不夠呀。  

你對墊底的 footer/spike 有何建議呢？
小弟想首先試試 Stillpoints。

識玩有資源玩，一定喺雙分體供電，將基本上係數碼嘅影像部分與模擬嘅聲音輸出部分分開，對聲效有莫大增益。

IsoRack用嘅物料係銅，跟來的腳墊都係銅，所以小弟認為銅墊係比較夾IsoRack的。而事實小弟試過銅 (Harmonix TU-210ZX 的墊)、鋁 (Harmonix TU-210 的墊)、厚鋁 (Symposium Coupler)、不銹鋼 (FE Cerapuc 上層) (因為手頭上有這些產品)，結果都係銅塾比較夾。

另外，如果有位當然係將 Power Base 分開放，不過地方永遠係小弟嘅最大問題，結果冇辦法只能放在一起，我就放喺rack頂。Power Base 個殻都幾重，鋁板厚度十足，有效減低干擾，估計廠方有做足測試及分析，所有到最後小弟都放心叠埋一齊。

現在多左發行BR disc, 好似張學友最近張國語大碟，原本都想買張，但網上揾唔到免費software ripper因此沒有買。

你的 "Oppo103D + Vanity DoP digital output card + full-linear external psu Mod" 是個類似的，既好聲又抵玩的方案呀。
小弟有數位朋友說他們已購入了幾套！


不如你開個post，或在「特許商店區」內詳細介一下啦。

請問在最底的 Analog DAC 的 釘脚是否被拆除了呢？

Congratulations, CK.
I knew eventually you will have the UMT Plus.
I did struggle a bit between MSB Data Transport or UMT Plus, in light of the few hundreds of SACD, plus the fact that it's compatibility of Blu Ray Pure Audio, I decided to choose UMT Plus. Besides, I put all the HS and DSD files I bought and put them into Data DVD and have them played on UMT Plus, I would say they all sounds great. As a matter of fact I do have the same Carlos Kleiber Album as well.
May I now if you need to buy the MSB PSU instead of the DAC or Drive without ?
I had both unit being powered by custom made PSU by Ben Lau.
Share here with you 2 photo and as you can see, I use Harmonix 666M underneath Signature Plus Dac IV and TAOC spikes under UMT Plus. will change to 666M once I get hold of another 2 sets of 666M next month.

Long time no see & chat!  
Eager to know your comments on pairing MSB gears with Harmonix 666M footers.    

Yes, the psu made by Ben with R-Cores for MSB is very good.  I did comparison and found that they are equivalent to MSB Signature grade Powerbase.
However, there will be a secret weapon soon for the audio dc input of my UMT Plus.

103/103D with Vanity DoP + Dual External linear psu.... 剛剛攬好兩星期.... 將video 與audio 分開供電有好處.  等我新年後再share 的資料...  

Vanity DSD card 其實幾好玩. 可以出DSD .   本身的VCXO 也不錯.  放BluRay AUdio 與normal 24/192 playback 也效果不錯.....
