The Reference Starling slapped me in the face. While I know that Sumiko has been in the cartridge business forever, and obviously should know by now how to make a good cartridge, I hadn’t expected this level of performance for a (pretty much) affordable price.

If I had not been tempted by the local audio shop, I might have passed this gem by and would have missed a very musical phono cartridge. The Sumiko Celebration Pearwood II is Sumiko's signature model, created to mark the company's silver anniversary of cartridge manufacture. Unlike Sumiko's other moving coils, the Celebration is a low-output (although a quite robust 0.5 mV) unit, designed to work with low-output moving-coil phono stages.
