Tonight, just finished running the Anthem ARC with my new Ultra sub. Strange thing is that I set Bass Management - Movie profile at 7.1 channel and Music profile at 2.1. The ARC complained that under Music profile the sub level is more than 10 db at some listening position(I used minimum 5 positions, maximum is 10). Retried without suceess and finally just simply set Music = Movie at 7.1 channels.
There is a Quick Measure to help to decide the placement of a particular speaker- with the reslutant response curve shown in real time under various positions. Theortically to use the position with the flattest response. I utilised this feature to decide which mode of my sub is better - there are 4 modes, namely 1) Movies, 2) Rock, 3) Jazz and 4) Games. Except for (3), which is suppose to have the flattest response curve and no intended addition of db in certain frequency, all the others have some exaggeration in some frequency. For example, under movie, 3 or 4 db more for 40-50 Hz(not sure of the correct figures). I orginally thought that the Jazz should be better than the movie mode, but the ARC Quick Measure told me that the movie mode is even better.

After runnuing the ARC, I watched some BR movies - Kung Fu Panda, Flash Point, Fast & Furious 4.
In Kung Fu Panda escape prison chapter, the arrow shooting hit was amazing, authoritative, punch and metalic, although not as that spectacular as heard yesterday in "C Ma" 's home. He has the DD 10 and the MK KX-120.
Flash Point and Fast & Furious various scenes also confirmed that the new Ultra sub brought much improvement over the previous 8R. It's like "a big man Vs a child yelling". With no comparison, the 8R was enjoyable but with now heard under the new Ultra, there is sure no going back. Maybe my some over 200 ft listening area sounds better with/needs a bigger sub.
Now I am running the sub with internet radio, may need more time for breaking-in. |
