Dear CK,
Any update on your secret weapon ?
Sorry while I was back in HK in early March, I could not make time to meet you up and I did ask Ben about your secret weapon and he told me it would be ready until end March or early April, just wonder if there is any update. Besides, I would like to share with you and other CHings my experience playing BLURay Pure audio disc with UMT Plus and/may be with OPPO players as well. As you may know I am an opera fan, my recent acquire on BluRay Pure Audio were Solti's Wagner Ring cycle and Mehta's Turandot, I just could not start the play without a screen, may be you can help me out.
After a week of trying out phono stage from Whest, as UK company specialized in phono stage only, I was shocked to realized how outdated my Hovland HP-100 on phono playback, the sound was so open and the soundstage was much wider than before with all my LP gears remain no change.
With that said, what I am trying to say is after a week of intensive listening (4 to 6 hours a day for 6 days) to the magnificent phono stage from Whest, that sets a standard of reference on how I see Bluray Audio as another HD format. Remember I said before, all along I have been saving all my HD and DSF file in data DVD and play them thru my MSB gears and found it shound great ? Under the same set up, of all the Bluray pure audio disc I acquired, they all render a high quality sound in terms of sound stage, density of musical information, musicality and micro dynamics. The sound reproduced was not fatiguing at all. FYI, I had been listening to Bluray pure audio for the past 2 and half days, I finished the whole Wagner's ring cycle and Turandot with some other materials. Originally I was reserving all those time for my Aurender X100L 12TB which I just received, but sorry it has to wait for next week or so. As you can see from photo attached here, the first now was taken while I was listening to Die Walkure and the second photo attached shows what I had been acquiring on Bluray pure audio. Needless to mention the ledgendary Kleiber's symphonies on DGG, even the Cantonese pop title by Hok-E and even the latest one from Alan Tam were very enjoyable. If you have the Alan Tam's album, I have no idea how the other format sound, but you can easily hear Alan's voicing clearly and you can tell the aging effect kicks in as this is inevitable to everyone. The Brahms' symphonies cycle by Chailly was another one I would recommend without reservation, only my personal opinion. One thing for sure, my library for Bluray Pure Audio disc will grow, hoping that the record company will not discontinue this format. Guest which album got me started on this new format ?
Cheers.
