And tube preamp + transistor poweramp is my favorite combination too for all round capabilities!!! And look at this, this is no ordinary tube pre, but one of the best money can buy in today's market.......the ARC Reference 5!!! Frankly, it's miles ahead of the older Ref3.

This friend of yours must be an 'old customer of Sound Chamber'.  His ARC/Spectral/Wilson were all previously carried by Sound Chamber.
