It depends on which DAC or Streamer/Renderer you use.
Some using USB will sound better whereas the others using Etherent Cable will sound better.
But, there are fundamental techniques to get CAS sound better:
1. Try to place your x86 computer as far as possible from your Hi-fi to minimize EMI. In my case, I place my x86 computer in my study room of which the power circuit is on the other phase (my apartment is 3-phase power supplied). I use a 13-m long Supra Cat8 Etherent cable directly connect my x86 computer to dCS NB via JCAT Net Card powered by Uptone JS-2.
2. Try to use dual-PC setup. In my case, my x86 computer and dCS NB are considered as dual-PC setup which use two different OS.
3. Try to use traditional hard disk to store your music files in the x86 computer with an audio grade SATA cable.
4. Try to avoid using NAS to store your music files.
5. Try to buy the Power Supply for the x86 computer with the lowest ripple noise. The Power Supply of the x86 computer should be connected an audio grade Power Cable.
6. Try to use ROON as the playback software as ROON use RAAT protocol to streaming music from your x86 music server to your Streamer/Renderer.
7. Try to connect an external clock to both the DAC and Streamer/Renderer. This is the most important.
8. Try to get all Network Switches and Wireless Routers away from the Hi-fi area.
Hope it can help. |
