In all fairness it may not be for everyone, but if you use iPhone 4S/iPad2 and like to share pictures and videos on your i devices with family and friends, I honestly cannot think of an easier way, you just enable Airplay and that is!  I was watching Quicktime movie trailers with ATV3 last night, and man was it ever so much more easy to do it now and watch it on our big TV, instead of watching it on a computer like in the past, the youtube is also nice but of course many media players can do that too.  About the only think I don't like about it is the little dingy remote.

The price of admission is most likely less than one of those cables we buy with absolutely no new technology except for how fancy they look. Just my 2 cents.

agree with bread ching.  it might not be for everyone but the chance that you would luv it is relatively high if you have an idevice like ipad or iphone... control is so simple esp with idevice.  have so much fun watching previously made slideshow (with music background) with family on big screen, watch movies (need itunes gift card except for trailers), tv series, etc. listening to music, podcast, etc even though your AVR doesn't support airplay... considering its price (i bought it at hkd 1000), the fun that it gives me already cover my cost

It was looking for a way to play my Canon 5DII .mov files which are non-standard .mov files and many players cannot play them, now with the ATV3 I need to look no further !!

Does anyone has Synology NAS and can confirm if the iTunes server on the NAS can work completely independent for streaming videos and music, ie, without turning on your PC or MAC?

bro, i hv synology NAS. although i havent configured it to stream music, i am pretty sure it works without turning on pc. let me ask my colleague tmr as he is using one as well ;)

Great thanks I think if the iTunes on Synology works the same way as a PC/MAC based iTunes server it would be prefect since ATV cannot access a NAS directly.

bread, my colleague cfm synology NAS can stream music without turning on PC or Mac.  all you need is to setup DDNS so that you can e.g. stream music at office from your NAS.  synology also supports DLNA but people mostly use it locally.  just a friendly reminder, streaming music will shorten your hard disc life in NAS.  since i dun have enormous amount of music myself, i save them all in 64G ipad have you ever think of itunes match?

you are lucky dude. unlike you, i am still stucking with the .tod files
i didn't do enough study on jvc cam at that time before purchasing... good lesson for me.
