Since we have seemed some very interesting DIY projects from our expert - ayuen cheng. I found this tonearm project off the net to share with you guys.

The builder made use of the bearing block from a Thorens TP16 arm and from which branched out an arm of 20 inches long (from pivot to stylus). It would be great to hear how it performs with less tracking errors.

It does push the limits of today's tonearm.

You have got an ambitious project on hand again.

I am almost certain you already know the existence of MG-1 air bearing tonearm. I was told there is a need of surge tank to maintain the stability of air pressure apart from those accessaries for example good air pump. By the way, I may also see it in one of your pics.

My bro sent me this MG-1 air bearing. I'll use the beam and it's mount/air intake and weight only. I'm building the arm and others with sandwich carbon fibre.

I like this than MG-1. Its outlook and finishing are more modern. Mine will be carbon black.

Sure, but its price tag is more significant as well. I guess we get what we pay for.

True, the tonearm of the MG-1 looked ugly. I'll use a 12mm carbon tube as the wand.
