市場主流的無源前級設計有幾種，一是簡單地將圓形電阻網路直接焊在旋鈕之後，兩者互相連接。這類設計有兩個問題：1) 需要利用旋鈕去改變接點，令接點之間經常摩擦而引致損耗，故此，連續使用三至五年左右，就會出現連接不良、產生噪音，因而劣化音質；   2) 受制於電阻網路的體積，音量等級大多只有24級。

icOn  Passive preamp 團隊找到了更聰明的方法，就是透過reed relay 或Vishay FET，去切換變壓器抽頭，以改變音量。
沒有了摩擦損耗，令icOn系列無源前級變得非常耐用。使用繼電器的話，音控線路經得起10億次切換，就算一星期7天、24小時運作，可以連續使用555年！最新推出的icOn 4 PRO，更進一步改用Vishay FET，理論上壽命更是無上限！

市場上其他無源前級，音控級別大多只有30 ~ 40 級，每級音量2dB；icOn系列無源前級則可以做到44至68級、每級1dB，用家更容易調整到所需音量。


icOn 的靈魂.... Autoformer (AVC  volume control)

變壓器方面，由美國紐約的精品音響元件供應商Dave Slagle，依照icOn 的要求而生產，無論質素和價格都是精品級數。
icOn系列前級的內部線路結構是印刷電路板，目的是排除手工作業的這項不穩定因素，令產品質素更加一致。


icOn passive preamp 看上了集成電路的多功能優點，把它用於非音樂訊號路徑，不但以此指示繼電器或Vishay FET進行切換，更令icOn系列無線前級可以透過遙控改變音量，亦藉此設置了一個可調光暗的顯示器，用家無需再走近前級才知道音量等級。

真係一部好preamp，出到完全估佢唔出嘅咁powerful 嘅聲，如此又深又闊嘅音場，同時音色又十分細膩動人，做到很感性的音樂感，無論高低大細聲都很不費氣力，十分從容咁一揮而就，聲音密度很高focus 很 tight很 sharp，就仿似有位大師好立體、好真實咁係面前show off。十分享受！

V1 :  1 RCA + 1 XLR input ,  1 x RCA and 1 x XLR output   ( 2 x autoformer)  (82mm Height)
V2 :  5 pair RCA input and 3 x RCA output ( 2 x autoformer ) (82mm Height)
V3 : 2 x XLR input , 4 x RCA input,  2 x XLR output ,  2 x RCA output ( 2 x autoformer)  , 有output 與 input selection  , 240mm x 270mm x 130 mm ( WxDxH)
V4 :  4 x XLR input ,  2 x XLR output  ,  TRUE Balanced configuration , 4 x aotoformer) , 有output 與 input selection , 240mm x 270mm x 130 mm ( WxDxH)

Except Version 4 which got 4 autoformers in Balanced configuration.  all v1 to v3 should got the same configuration .

Only the version 4 is true balance.

yes ,  all version got remote hanset,  and ALL version for LEFT / RIGHT leveling adjustment (controlled by remote handset) .

I hv been using the basic IcOn4 for more than 6 months and I cannot be happier with it pairing with my 47 Lab Gain card. Perfectly neutral and transparent. Its lack coloration let me see through the equipment directly to the essence of music. My most important purchase over the years! Pal worked his butt and heart out and yet cannot meet the crazy demand due to rave review by Srajan!!

Grab one before stock lasts and you won't regret one bit! For this price, it's a steal and the remote is so handy and handsome too.

Over 6 months and not a glitch, love this little box! Now I can start streaming Tidal happily while listening to my CD collection!
